2016 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Amoureuses”

96 points Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses was matured in 15% new oak, a drastic reduction than previous vintages to express the terroir. It is 100% whole cluster fruit. It has another really quite bewitching bouquet with detailed black and red fruit, crushed violet, just a hint of vanilla pod in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, pure black cherry and blue fruit, outstanding mineralité and a pixelated, crystalline finish that beckons you back for another sip. Unquestionably one of the finest Les Amoureuses that this Domaine has ever produced. Tasted at the Domaine.(NM) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

94 points Wine Spectator
Outer quote mark Effusive aromas of flowers, sandalwood, black currant and blackberry are allied to a delicate frame. Balanced in a slim way, with an open, silky texture and a long, mineral-tinged aftertaste. All about finesse. Best from 2021 through 2040. Inner quote mark (12/2018)

K&L Notes
94-97pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: “Just 15% new wood, 40% whole bunches which is on the old vine component. Medium purple, lively explosive nose. The small amount of stems still show, vibrant juicy deep red cherry fruit, then some oak behind giving a slight chocolate note.” (01/2018) 98pts Tim Atkin (MW): “The Groffiers’ five parcels of Les Amoureuses escaped the frost in 2016, which is fortunate for the many devotees of this wine. Made with less (15%) new oak than the 2015, and only 60% whole clusters, it’s a Premier Cru Pinot that’s driven by acidity, with delicate rose petal aromas, fine tannins and a long, effortlessly classy finish. 2026-36.” (01/2018)
