2016 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Haut Doix”
91 points Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru has an extremely pure and sensual bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and vanillary scents from the new oak that needs a few more months to be fully subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. It is not the most complex Chambolle-Musigny, but it feels approachable and flatters the senses. Outer quote mark Taut and focused, with black cherry and blackberry flavors fused to the bracing structure. Lithe and long, this adds spice and stone notes on the chalky finish. (BS) Inner quote mark (12/2018)
Jancis Robinson
Outer quote mark Cask sample. Light to mid cherry. This smells much fresher fruited than the Bourgogne and a touch peppery. Has the same compact tannins but there’s much more fruit at the core and this has guts for good ageing. 17/20 points (JH) Inner quote mark (1/2018)
K&L Notes
95 points Tim Atkin, MW: “Considered, at least by me, as a poor man’s Les Amoureuses, this is less intense than the latter Premier Cru but has some of its finesse and chalky freshness. Scented, elegant and vivacious, with classic summer pudding flavours, a hint of clove spice and a long, refined finish. 2024-30.” (01/2018) 91-93 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: “30% new wood, 40% whole bunches. Powerful mid purple, a touch of barrel toast, maybe a touch of reduction though this soon blows off. Some oak shows, some whole bunch briary notes. Moderate concentration, this has just taken up the wood a little.” (01/2018)
