Outer quote mark The 2016 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers was touched by the frost and the old vines here suffered according to Nicolas Groffier. Due to depleted quantities it is 100% whole bunch fruit matured in one-third new oak. It has a lifted bouquet with blackberry, black cherry and hints of blue fruit, a subtle mineral tension underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a strict, quite saline entry, rather peppery thanks to the stem addition. A structured but fresh finish that is complex and cerebral rather than willing to please at this early stage. Cellar this away for a decade and I believe it will repay your patience. The result is a stunning wine of great complexity: perfumed and graceful with a gentle touch in the cellar. This suits the heavy clay soil too. Rich purple, delicious complex bouquet, some firm tannins behind but surrounded by very high quality fruit. Excellent length, a wine for the long term.
