Producer note: Etienne de Montille was not available at the time of my visit and thus I do not have his views on the 2017 vintage. Brian Sieve, the cellar master, did note however that 2017 “gave us clean and ripe chardonnay. I would describe it as being similar to what 2011 gave us in terms of the fruit yet the wines are better balanced. They remind me a bit of a slightly less classical 2014.” See also the associated reviews for Maison DEux Montille (above) or the Château de Puligny-Montrachet (below). Tasting note: A cool, pure and ultra-floral nose blends notes of both red and dark cherry, anise, sandalwood and a hint of herbal tea. The firm, serious and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess excellent verve while culminating in a youthfully austere and impressively long finish. This is clearly very firm yet it’s a bit less compact than it usually is but with that said, plenty of patience will still be necessary.
