Domaine Cécile Tremblay
2009Chambolle-Musigny “Feusselottes” 1er ♥1er Cru Red barrel
Score: 90-92
Tasted: Jan 01, 2011
Drink: 2017+
Issue: 41
Outstanding
Note: from a .5 ha parcel that was originally purchased with Dr. Georges Mugneret and divided in half
Producer note: Cécile Tremblay describes 2009 as an “excellent but chaotic vintage where to make great wine you really had to control yields. For example, I had to make three different passes in Echézeaux to drop fruit. I picked between the 9th and the 19th of September and had super clean fruit that ranged from 12.8 to 13.2% in potential alcohols. As such, I didn’t chaptalize or acidify as the fruit had everything it needed. I did a long but very soft 30 day vinification and used anywhere from 0 to 100% whole clusters depending on the wine in question. Overall, I like the ’09s a lot as they’re balanced and charming but have the material and structure to offer serious longevity.” (Weygandt-Metzler, www.weygandtmetzler.com, Unionville, PA; Wine Trail, UK).
Tasting note: Mild reduction knocks down the softly wood-trimmed nose but the seductively textured, palate coating and mineral-driven flavors possess a beguiling sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in an explosive, intense and quite serious finish. The firm tannins are well buffered by all of the sap and this should age very well.
