Producer note: Benoît Ente told me that the 2019 vintage “gave us tiny yields as the frost killed us on the lower sections and the drought killed us on the hillsides. Overall, we were down some 60% compared with a normal vintage. On the plus side, we picked from the 2nd to the 8th of September and the fruit basically could not have been cleaner. Potential alcohols were perfectly correct in the context of the style I want to make at between 12.5 and 13.5%. Acidities were also perfectly good though not high and stylistically, I would compare the 2019s to a blend of 2010 and 2011.” Ente noted that because of the reduced quantities, there will be no Golden Jubilee or Nexe Flore. I have said this before but it’s worth repeating that Ente has really been on a roll for the last few vintages and in 2019, as was the case in 2018, every wine in the range is recommended. (DNS Wines, www.dnswines.com, San Francisco, CA; Berry Brothers & Rudd, www.bbr.com and Vins & Saveurs, both UK).
Tasting note: This too is intensely floral in character with its pure essence of white peach, pear and exotic spice. There is more volume and refinement to the more evidently mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess a caressing yet powerful, balanced and lengthy finish. This is really quite lovely and a wine that should easily reward a decade plus of bottle aging.
