Producer note: Lalou Bize-Leroy professes to “love 2008. The vintage produced very solid wines with beautiful acidities and superb, and very fine, tannins. We produced across all of our appellations only 13 hl/ha with essentially ideal pHs of between 3.4 and 3.55. For me, the ’08s resemble the ’05s with their ripe phenolics and built to age structures though the ’08s are perhaps a bit more revelatory in terms of the underlying terroirs. I believe that 2008 is a genuinely great vintage and I only hope that 2009 will be as good.” The Leroy ’08s were bottled in December, 2009. Tasting note: This is also quite fresh but notably earthier with a pretty blend of spiced red currant and blue berry aromas that are followed by detailed and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a mouth coating and moderately austere finish that is supported by quite firm and mildly rustic tannins.
